    (前句)

　　　切りたくもあり 　　　　　　I  would  like  to  cut, 

　　　　切りたくもなし             But  l  would  also  rather  not  cut.

 

　　(付句１)

       ぬす人を　　　　　　　　　When  I  caught  the  thief

　　　　とらへてみれば          And  examined  him, I  found

　　　　　わが子なり               It  was  my  own  son.

 

　　(付句2)

　　　　さやかなる　　　　　　　The  branch  of  blossoms

　　　　　月を隠せる              That  conceals  from  my  view

　　　　　　花の枝                   The  bright  moon.

 

  (付句1)は、人間真情を衝いて、まことに当を得た付句として古来よく知られている。

　(付句2)は、自然描写で、一応の理屈は分かるが、説得力はあまりない。
